ARE YOU EXPERIENCING THE UNDUE BURDEN ON PROVIDERS?
In healthcare, regulations and red tape are nothing new. However, recent times have been fraught with tedium thanks to new programs, regulations and guidance; programs like Meaningful (Meaningless?) Use, MACRA, MIPS, the Affordable Care Act, the 21st Century Cures Act; regulations that change how healthcare providers are paid, regulations that publicize providers’ quality of care, guidance that all but requires Electronic Health Record (EHR) and robust information technology implementation, and guidance indicating increased scrutiny over HIPAA compliance.
The healthcare industry keeps on finding ways to overextend providers in both time and finances. A recent report from the Physicians Foundation stated 20% of a provider's day is related to uncompensated tasks. That’s about $50,000-60,000 in lost revenue per year, not including the additional loss providers must now take on Right to Access requests. It’s not a monumental leap to assume this is why more than half of providers report feelings of burnout. We’ve entered a new era – an era where providers are drowning in regulations, scrutiny for value-based care, and the expectation to do more for less.
Welcome to the era of the overburdened provider.
